The itinerary for the Coastal Villages
We will meet at the Dun Laoghaire Tourist information Centre where we will start our walking tour along Marine Road beside bustling Dun Laoghaire harbour. We will then stroll along Dun Laoghaire East pier which jutts out into the Irish sea and maybe see a few local seals along the way.
We will then walk to a local sea swimming haunt called the 40 foot. Meet the community of sea swimmers who gather here every morning for their constitutional morning swim. If you are brave enough you can take a dip too but if you prefer to stay dry and warm you can pop into the nearby historic Martello Tower which is now the James Joyce museum, which houses many of James Joyce’s personal effects Joyce stayed here which inspired the world renowned book Ullysses. We will then turn inland and wander through the local village of Sandycove and stop off at a traditional local pub to sample the Guinness and have a light lunch such as seafood chowder using locally sourced ingredients.
After lunch we will walk to the next nearby village of Glasthule where we will visit the well known and popular Cavistons Food Emporium where you can sample and buy top quality local produce including Irish cheese, freshly caught seafood and Irish soda bread. We will then weave our way back to our starting point, the Dun Laoghaire Tourist Office by way of a small formal Victorian park called People’s Park. From here your adventures can continue…. explore the coast further by taking the Dart (train )South or if you miss the busy city and there in 20 minutes.
